Goodhue Envirothon Team


The Gooodhue Envirothon team will be sending two teams to the state competition after placing two in the top three at Byron Sportsman's Conservation Club outside of Byron, MN . They earned a birth to the state competition which will take place on Monday, May 15th. The second place team was Goodhue Black which is made of Luke Roschen, Roland Munson, Michael Roschen, Jack Carlson, Hayden Holm, and Luke Roschen. The championship team was Goodhue Black who is made of Kendra Rehder, Kylie Mandelkow, Brynna Shaw, Natalie Thomforde, and Macy Buck. Chatfield will also be bringing a team to the state competition after placing 3rd in the region. The teams are coached by science teacher Matt Halverson and Robby Ebner.

Envirothon is a science and nature competition in which students are tested in the field of soils, water, wildlife, forestry and special topic. The competition also includes a heavily scored oral presentation which relates to the yearly special topic-this year it was on green city infrastructure and design. Teams have to come up with a plan of how to fix a current scenario in Minnesota. Goodhue is part of the Southeast Region VII which includes schools in Goodhue, Wabasha, Rice, Steel, Freeborn, Mower, Dodge, Olmstead, Winona and Houston counties. The top three teams in each region qualify for the state competition. With eight regions in the state, there will be 24 teams that compete at the state level.
