The Wildcats basketball team had a great season heading to the state tournaments with the #1 seed and a 30-1 record for the season. They headed to the playoffs with a 24 game winning streak and a desire to come home with the win after single digit losses in the 2024 and 2025 playoffs.
The Wildcats defeated Perham 70-49 in the quarterfinals and then faced the defending state champion Albany on Friday. The game was hard fought and the Wildcats overcame the Huskies with a 76-74 win.
State championship game was Saturday March 28, and they faced the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks. Even though the Wildcats held a 30-28 lead at halftime the Redhawks were a formidable opponent and came back to dominate the second half. The final score was 81-69 and the Wildcats came home with the runner up title. The quote coach Halverson gave KTTC television was a tribute to the team. “Our boys never quit,” Halverson said. “They will never quit. They’re from Goodhue." Coach Halverson was awarded the Minnesota State Coach of the Year for 2026 for Class AA basketball.
