Lyle Henry Zemke, 67, of Red Wing, died Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Methodist Hospital. He was born October 9, 1956 in Zumbrota to Burton and Marjorie (Kahl) Zemke. He was baptized on November 4, 1956 and confirmed in his faith on May 16, 1971 at St. Peter’s Lutheran church in Goodhue. He grew up in Goodhue and graduated from Goodhue High School, class of 1975. He went onto work for the Soo Line Railroad before moving on to Treasure Island where he worked in catering for many years, retiring in 2021. On June 19, 1992 he married Shirley Hayes in Red Wing where they made their home.

Lyle enjoyed playing cards, especially with is group of friends in Goodhue. He also loved spending time with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Red Wing; step-children, Kathy Jacobson, Rodney Hayes, Mark Hayes, all of Red Wing and Scott Hayes of Spooner, Wisc.; sister, Carol Voth of Goodhue; brother, Duane (Lynne) Zemke of Bellingham, Wash.; brother-in-law, Paul Pechacek of Ceder Falls, Iowa; 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

He is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Laurie Hayes; sister, Barbara Pechacek, brother-in-law, Charles Voth; and his parents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Pastor Peter Sternberg officiating.
